Help - Appendix What sort of help is needed ? My doctor is going to send me to see a specialist for my foot ulcer which is not healing. What type of doctor should I go to see ? This will depend on the local situation and your general practitioner is the best one to advise you on this. If the main problem is vascular, it is best to see a vascular surgeon. If the main problem is neuropathic, a multi-disciplinary foot clinic is the best place to start. If there is none near you, you should see a surgeon who is experienced in treating diabetic foot ulcer and who works in close liaison with podiatrists and nurses. I live in a small country town. Is there anything I can do about my foot ulcer which is not healing ? There are quite a few rural centres with well trained staff who can look after someone with a foot ulcer. Some of these centres also have facilities to take a computer photograph of you foot and transmit it down to the RPAH Diabetes Centre for further consultation. We can give you more information but your doctor needs to give us permission to do so. |
